Tune in for our Two Day Irish Genealogy Workshop! Registration Open Now!– Motivation Monday

Back by popular demand!  The Fountaindale District and the Plainfield Public Library District are hosting a Two Day Irish Genealogy Workshop and Streaming Webinar with the Ulster Historical Foundation on Wednesday,March 15 and Thursday, March 16, 2017 at the Fountaindale Public Library, 300 W. Briarcliff Road in Bolingbrook, IL.

Each multi-session day will feature the following lectures:

Irish Genealogy – Resources for Success! ireland(Wednesday, March 15 9:30 am to 5 p.m.)
Morning Session
09:30 Introduction to Irish and Scots-Irish Research (1 hr)
10:30 Irish Education and School Records (30 mins)
11:00 BREAK (30 mins)
11:30 Gravestone Inscriptions and Newspapers as Sources for Irish Research (45 mins)
12:15 LUNCH

Afternoon
1:30 Sources Available for Irish Research by County (1 hr)
2:30 Introduction to Archives in Ireland (45 mins)
3:15 BREAK
3:30 Using the Registry of Deeds, with a Short Introduction to Irish wills (55 mins)
4:30 Q&A and solving brick walls

Famine Era Records and Emigration imrs(Thursday, March 16 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m.)
Morning Session
09:30 a.m.  The Great Famine in Ireland, 1845–51: A Brief Historical Overview (1 hr)
10:30 a.m.   BREAK
10:50 a.m.   Emigration from Ireland to North America: An Overview (1 hr)
11:50 a.m.   The Great Famine in Ireland: Sources for Research Part 1 (45 mins)
12.45 p.m.   LUNCH

Afternoon Session
2:00 p.m.   The Great Famine in Ireland: Sources for Research Part 2 (45 mins)
2:45 p.m.   Emigration from Ireland to North America: Strategies for Researching
Emigrant Ancestors (1 hr)
3:45 p.m.   BREAK
4:00 p.m.  Q&A and Solving Brick Walls

The program is free, however in-person attendee space is limited to 75 participants in Meeting Room A, and an overflow webinar area for 35 in the 2nd Floor Board Room.
Due to the popularity of this event, walk-in registration may not be available. Reserve your space in the program online or call the Fountaindale Public Library 3rd Floor Reference Desk at (630) 685-4176.

In-person participants will enjoy light snacks, handouts, door prizes, and the opportunity to purchase Ulster Historical Society books during the program.
